Bernadette Valore Obituary

Bernadette "Bern" (DeMarino) Valore, 74, of Slickville, was born July 5, 1951, to the late James and Julia (Cararini) DeMarino. Bern passed away on Sunday, Oct. 5, 2025, surrounded by so much love from her family. Bern dedicated much of her life to helping others. She enjoyed volunteering for the food pantry and with St. Vincent DePaul. A devoted Pittsburgh Pirates fan, she referred to the team as her "boys." She is survived by her daughter, Nanette "Nan" Schmidt, and husband, DeWayne; and her son, William "Moe" Valore III, and wife, Nicole. Bern's greatest joys were her grandchildren: Felicia Valore (Erik), Dylan McRoberts (Sierra), Shannon Valore (Shawn), and Korey Schmidt (Amelia). She was also excited to welcome her first great-granddaughter, Brooklynn Elizabeth, expected in November. She leaves behind her very best friend and sister, Judy Bihon, and husband, Tom. Bern was blessed with many special people in her life, including Jonathan, Sarah, and Alexis Schmidt; Joyce and Terry Valore; Tara Truscott; T.J. Valore; Eileen Orange Hribal; Patty Whitford; Jan Morcheid; Beverly Resnick; Debbie Capasso; Sandra Christopher; and Kimberly Zimmerman. She shared a unique and cherished bond with her mother-in-law, Martha Valore. Bern will be dearly missed by her nieces, nephews, cousins, and countless friends. Throughout her life, Bern was devoted to her children and grandchildren. She will always be remembered as a faithful, selfless, caring, kind, compassionate, and loving woman whose presence enriched the lives of all who knew her. The family wishes to express heartfelt gratitude to the doctors, nurses, and staff at UPMC East, Dr. Gibson, and the Interim Hospice team. A special thank you to Katrina Long for not only being an excellent nurse but also for being a part of our family. In honoring Bern's wishes, there will be no viewing. A service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 11, 2025, at St. Sylvester Church, Slickville; family and friends are welcome to gather in celebration of Bern's life. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Saint Vincent DePaul, Slickville Conference, in St. Ambrose office, 505 Cambria Ave., Avonmore, PA 15618. VAIA FUNERAL HOME INC., 463 Athena Dr., Delmont, (724-468-1177), has been entrusted with the arrangements. Dear Nan, Moe and family,
I was saddened to hear of your mother's passing. Judy kept me abreast of her and she had a lot of suffering. Know that she is at peace. What a great smile and the picture reminded me of that. I will always remember her smile. Know that you are all in my thoughts and prayers.
