Edwin Kelly Obituary

Edwin Dean Kelly, 94, of Apollo, passed away on April 9, 2025. Born Nov. 2, 1930, in Vandergrift, he was the son of the late Clair Neal and Edna (Crusan) Kelly. Ed was a 1949 graduate of Washington Township High School. After graduation, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served on the USS Greenwich Bay AVP-41 from 1949 to 1952 and on the USS Mindoro CVE-120 from 1952 to 1953. Ed lived in the Alle-Kiski Area all of his life. He worked at Schenley Distillery from 1954 to 1965, US Steel in 1966, and Wean United from 1967 until retiring in 1987. Ed loved gardening and birdwatching. He was an avid sports fan and loved to watch high school, college, and professional football and basketball, both locally and on television. He enjoyed traveling and visited all 50 states by the time he was 59. In addition to his parents, Ed was preceded in death by his sister, Betty Groholski; and nephew, Richard Groholski. Ed is survived by his daughters, Colleen (Nicki Keefer) Kelly of Ellenton, FL, and Erin (Clifford) Williams of Kiski Township; two step-grandchildren, Melissa and Krista Williams; brother, Edward Kelly of Hershey; nephews, Kurt (Kate) Dunmire, Frank (Lee Ann) Groholski, and Michael Kelly; and his nieces, Mary Ann (Harold) Peace, Kathy (Tim) Lewis, and Jackie (Carl) vonWodtke. Friends will be received from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m., on Saturday, April 12, 2025, in the Curran-Shaffer Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 100 Owens View Ave., Apollo.
