Mary Johnston Obituary

Mary Roxane Johnston, 96, of Vandergrift, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, Sept. 23, 2025, in her daughter's home. Born July 31, 1929, in Kittanning to the late Samuel and Gertrude McAleer Campbell, she was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and teacher whose kindness and fun-loving spirit touched many lives. Roxane married Robert Glenn Johnston on July 30, 1948, and together they raised four children: Roberta (Bill) Pritz, Ronald Johnston, Richard (Amy) Johnston, and Renee Johnston (Selaer Ayers). She was also blessed with seven grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. After raising her family, Roxane and Bob graduated from Indiana University of Pennsylvania in 1968. She went on to teach elementary school for 22 years at Lenape, Bethel Township, and Kittanning Township schools. She was a member of Eastern Star and Alpha Ro sorority. Roxane and Bob shared a love of travel, visiting 49 states and much of Europe. At home, she enjoyed baking, reading, painting, Bunka artwork, and time with her family. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Patricia Bashline; and her husband of 60 years, Robert Glenn Johnston. Her life was a gift of love, laughter, and generosity, and she will be dearly missed. Family and friends will be received from 6 to 8 p.m., Sunday, in DUNMIRE-KERR & ROWE FUNERAL HOME INC., 244 Franklin Ave., Vandergrift, where funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Monday, with Pastor Hyung-Suk Joe officiating.
