Mary Brohan Obituary

Mary Jane Brohan

January 23, 1958 - July 13, 2025

Eatonville, Washington - Mary Jane Brohan (Mackiewicz) (Eatonville, WA) aged 67, passed away unexpectedly on July 13, 2025 in Puyallup, WA. She was born in Tacoma, Washington, on January 23rd, 1958 to Marion (Mack) E Mackiewicz and Myrtle (Dee) E Oscar.

Mary loved reminiscing about her childhood ferry rides and staying with her "Nana" Ruby King, whom she cherished, on Vashon Island. Because of her deep love for her grandmother, the families have arranged for Mary's ashes to be placed with her Nana at Mountain View Funeral Home and Cemetery. Mary would go on to excel academically through her school years culminating in achieving Wilson High School's class of 1976 Honor Roll distinction with a 3.9 GPA.

Mary would often jokingly state that she needed "numbers therapy," as she would go on to follow her passion for numbers and calculations to work in the field of bookkeeping, leading her to meet her loving husband of 44 ½ years, Craig F Brohan (Eatonville, WA). Although Mary was book smart, she also thrived when working with her hands. She was a woman of many talents, an incredible cook, a skilled crafter, and unafraid to tackle any home project, from laying sheet rock to installing granite. Her creativity was endless.

Mary's love for flower and vegetable gardening transformed our yards into sanctuaries, attracting birds, deer, and the occasional stray animal, all of which she welcomed with open arms. Like her mother Dee, Mary had a deep love for animals, especially our house cats. They always seemed to find her, and in return, they helped heal her heart during life's hardest moments.

She was the loving mother of her cherished children, John Paul Brohan (Puyallup, WA) and Marie Elyse Brohan (Brandon, FL).

Mary's lifelong dream of finding the son she gave up for adoption came to be realized in 2011, when she met the first love of her life, her son Douglas Allen Fifield, and his wife Elizabeth Meehan Fifield. (Auburn, WA) Mary proceeded to adopt Doug on July 21st, 2023, healing hearts and making the family legally whole for the first time in thirty five years. It was with great sadness that she passed before seeing the two year anniversary of the adoption.

Mary spent the last years of her life living peacefully in the country where she loved to serve her community as a dedicated Eatonville Lions Club member. She loved helping and talking to everyone she met. Her smile, laughter, and compassionate caring for those she surrounded herself with will be greatly missed.

Mary is survived by her husband, father, Marie Ellen Scholten (Sister-Tacoma, WA) John Joseph Mackiewicz (Brother- Puyallup, WA) and all of her children.

A catered memorial reception will be held at 2 p.m. on August 22, 2025 at Mountain View Funeral Home and Cemetery, Lakewood, WA. Flower donations are welcomed.

Rest in peace Sweetie Pie.

Love, Craig, Bingo & Skittles.
