William McClanahan Obituary
WILLIAM C "WILLIE" MCCLANAHAN, 89, of Leemaster, VA, passed away peacefully at his home on Monday, March 3, 2025, following an extended illness. Born in Roseann, VA, he was the son of the late Harrison Mack and Mae (Mitchem) McClanahan. He was a lifelong resident of Buchanan County and was a member of Victory Baptist Church. A retired coal miner of V.P. #1 mine, Local Union #1509, District 28, he worked many long and hard years for his family. As a volunteer Little League, Pony League and All-Star Baseball Coach, he impacted many lives during his 19 years of coaching. He always said coaching was so important to him but more important to the kids, if it kept "just one boy out of trouble" it is all worth it. A wonderful husband, father, brother, coach, friend and strong hardworking provider, his life was full of Faith.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by Son: William McClanahan Jr., Brother: Charles McClanahan and Great-Granddaughter: Sophia Grace Lester.
Those left to cherish his memory include his wife of 62-years, Virginia L. (Stiltner) McClanahan; Children: Debbie Hagy, Marcus (Ondrea) McClanahan, Matthew (Penny) McClanahan; Daughter-in-Law: Lisa McClanahan; Grandchildren: William, Sarah, John, Rebekah, Will, Marc, Linnea and Lindsay; Great-Grandchildren: Madison, Kannon and Luna; Brother: Lundy McClanahan; several Half-Siblings.
Visitation was held Wednesday evening at 6:00 P.M. at the Grundy Funeral Home Chapel.
Funeral Services for WILLIAM C. "WILLIE" MCCLANAHAN were conducted Thursday, March 6, 2025, at 1:00 P.M. at the Grundy Funeral Home Chapel with Pastors: Mike Rife and Dale Blankenship officiating. Burial followed in Mountain Valley Memorial Park, Big Rock, VA.
Active Pallbearers were family and friends.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Victory Baptist Church, 2093 Lovers Gap Road, Vansant, VA.
Grundy Funeral Home of Grundy, VA is honored to serve the family of WILLIAM C. "WILLIE" MCCLANAHAN.
