Herman Martin Obituary
Plainfield, NH - Herman G. Martin, 78, of Plainfield, New Hampshire, passed away on July 11, 2025, at his home with family, following a courageous battle with cancer. He was born on November 4, 1946, in Presque Isle, ME, the son of the late Raoul and Doris (St. Peter) Martin of Caribou, ME.
Herman graduated from Caribou High School in 1965 and earned a Bachelor's in Accounting from Husson University in 1969. He dedicated 35 years to working in the Department of Transportation in Concord, NH, retiring in June 2005. Additionally, he owned and operated a tax business for over 50 years.
A devout man, Herman was a lifelong member of the Catholic Church, where he was actively involved in various ministries, including the Knights of Columbus. He also honorably served his country for eight years in the Army Reserves.
Herman is survived by his beloved wife of 57 years, Sharon Martin of Plainfield. He leaves behind his children: Christopher (Charmaine) Martin of Grantham, NH, John (Marnie) Martin of Vernon, NY, Joy (David) Martin of Berkeley, CA, and Andrew (Christina) Martin of Plainfield, NH. He was also a proud grandfather to 11 grandchildren.
Herman was one of nine siblings. He is survived by Dolores(and her husband the late Fernand) of Caribou, ME, Bernadette (Robert) LeBlanc of Caribou, ME, John (and his late wife Ghislaine) Martin of Caribou, ME , Raoul (Lyse) Martin Jr. of St. Francis, Canada, Milton (Pauline) Martin of Caribou, ME, Diane (Terry) Newbegin of Nashville, TN , and Robert (Pamela) Martin of Caribou, ME. He was preceded in death by his sister Linda Ritter (Tom) of Jonesboro, TN. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Friends and family are invited to call at Ricker Funeral Home in Lebanon, NH, from 5 to 7 PM on Wednesday July 16th. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at The Catholic Church of Sacred Heart in Lebanon, NH at 10 AM on Thursday July 17th. Burial will follow in the Sacred Heart Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Knights of Columbus at Sacred Heart Church in Lebanon, NH or in honor of his geneous spirit please consider performing a kind act for someone in need. Hermon was such a joyful person. He and his wife Sharon were a good team together. I will always remember the many laughs we have had. He will be missed. Sharon and family, Dick and I are so very sorry to hear that Herman has passed away from this world. If anyone deserved a royal welcome to Heaven, it is Herman! We have wonderful memories of Herman and of you at St Peter’s Parish in Concord where you started a beautiful Prayer Group. We will pray for all of you, may God bless you.

Herman was a prime example of a man living in his faith. Cheerful no matter the situation, sacrificial in his volunteer work, and grateful for each day God had given him. A final thank you from the Knights of Columbus for the years of servitude and brotherhood you provided. I could not imagine a better role model for a young man such as myself to aspire to. My prayers to his family, his community of friends will keep him close at heart. Godspeed Herman! With great love!

Herman was an incredibly strong example of a man led by faith, cheerful no matter the circumstances, strong willed, and sacrificial in his volunteer work. I could think of no better example for a young man such as myself to look up to. Godspeed Herman! With great love.
