Robert Raymond Pafford Sr.

February 28, 1939 - June 5, 2025

Robert Raymond Pafford Sr., a beloved father, brother, and friend, passed away on June 5, 2025, at the age of 86. Born on February 28, 1939, Robert lived a life filled with hard work, service, and a love for his family. A proud veteran, he served in the Army from April 6, 1957, until January 23, 1965, and carried the values he learned into all aspects of his life. As a diesel mechanic, Robert was known for his incredible knack for fixing just about anything. He put that knowledge to use during his time as a racecar driver. Robert could often be found in his workshop or out in the garden, where he loved to spend time nurturing plants, showing Chinese owls (pigeons), and enjoying the outdoors. Woodworking and bird watching brought him joy, and he was a familiar face in the community, having served as the mayor of Nodaway for many years. His kindness and willingness to help others were evident in his years as a volunteer firefighter, volunteering as a bird keeper at a nursing home, and as a youth bowling coach for over 15 years.

Robert is survived by his children, Roberta, Kenneth, Rhonda, Robert, Chelsey, Jackie, Carrie, Tim; as well as many grandchildren and great-grandchildren who will carry on his legacy of compassion and dedication. He is also survived by his brother, David; his sister-in-law, Kathy; his niece, Keri See; and other nieces and nephews.

Robert was preceded in death by Heith Pafford, Anna-May Stull, Donna Pafford, Deborah Smith, Theadore Pafford, Norma Pafford, Ted Pafford, Wanda Young, and Larry Young.

Robert's laughter, stories, and generous heart will be missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him. His spirit will live on in the countless memories shared by his family and friends.

A Celebration of Life is scheduled for 2 p.m., July 12, at the 4H Building at Saunders County Fairgrounds in Wahoo. The Nebraska Cremation Society is in charge of the arrangements. nebraskacremation.com.
