Anthony Skapars Obituary

Anthony Skapars, 95, of McLean, Virginia, entered into eternal life on June 30, 2025, surrounded by his loved ones. A true patriarch, he was the heart of his Catholic family.
Born in Aglona, Latvia, Anthony (Antons) Skapars fled with his family during the Soviet occupation of World War II. He spent over 40 years in federal service, highlighted by work at the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office from 1965 to 1999.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 64 years, Diana Furman Skapars; his grandson, Jacob Michael Bartlam; his parents, Andrejs and Anna Valainis Skapars; and siblings: Jazeps, Anna, Monika, and Bronislava (Bonnie).
He is survived by five children, Linda (Randall, dec.) Herington, Cynthia Bartlam, Sandra (Wm Jack) Matney, James (Paulette) Skapars, and Thomas (Crystal) Skapars; and thirteen grandchildren, who will forever remember him as "Granddaddy."
A funeral Mass will be held Tuesday, July 8 at 11 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Herndon, VA. Interment to follow at Fairfax Memorial Cemetery.
