Michael Daniels Obituary

Michael Alan Daniels of Snowmass Village, CO and previously of Vienna, VA passed away on July 10, 2025 at the age of 79 after a courageous battle with cancer. Mike is survived by his beloved wife of 55 years, Bonnie, who he met on a blind date at Northwestern University in 1968, their children and their wives, Mike II (Liz), Chris (Sarah) and Sander (Bianca), and their grandchildren Katie, Lucas, Liam, Cierra, Michael III, Elena, Eva and Brooke. He was preceded in death by his parents William and Kathryn Daniels and sister Barbara.

Mike was born March 6, 1946 in Cape Girardeau, Missouri. Growing up he loved music, baseball, track, and the Boy Scouts where he earned the rank of Eagle Scout. He received a BS and MA from Northwestern University and a JD from the Missouri School of Law. He served the country that he loved in the Navy, assigned to work at the Advanced Research Projects Agency Network, now known as DARPA. He moved to the private sector, started his own company, and then worked at SAIC for 18 years, eventually becoming Senior Vice President. While there, he acquired and became Chairman and CEO of Network Solutions for SAIC. Ever the hard worker, retirement from SAIC led to numerous board roles, many as Chair, in technology companies and civic organizations including Two Six Labs, Invincea, Acentia, Mercury Systems, Logistics Management Institute, Sybase, GlobalLogic, Initiate Systems, Mobile365, Apogen Technologies, Verisign, Blackberry, Telcordia, the Virginia Chamber of Commerce, and the Northern Virginia Technology Council. He served on the CACI International, Inc. Board of Directors from 2013 until his death, serving as Chair since 2021.

Mike was an avid skier, cyclist, and most of all, hiker. He and Bonnie traveled extensively worldwide, always seeking adventures in the outdoors. His ultimate hike was to Everest Base Camp.

The family will hold a private service at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the Scouting America National Capital Area Council Mike Daniels Memorial – Scouting Tribute (https://donations.scouting.org/li/mikedaniels_memorial). Mike remained active in scouting by serving in multiple Council leadership positions because he was a true believer in the values and skills that scouting teaches.

Mike was the consummate gentleman. I met him when he first came on board as a marketing guy at SAIC under Rosie Rosenberg. As he gained esteem for his wisdom and smarts, he still treated me, a exec admin, and others with deep kindness and genuine cordiality. I am sorry for the deep loss to his family, and the communities he loved and supported.
