Watertown, WI - Joann Froemming passed away peacefully on July 21, 2025, in Oconomowoc, Wisconsin, with her husband, Ron, and her daughter, Roni Jo, by her side.
Joann was born on September 22, 1942, in Bellaire, Ohio, to Ira Cecil and Martha Lee (Amos) Spoon. She was the seventh of nine children in a lively household of five boys and four girls. In her younger years in Ohio, Joann's family raised chickens-something she loved helping her mother with. She also cherished riding their draft horse as it worked their land, early lessons in hard work and simple joys.
In 1954 the Spoons moved to Phoenix, Arizona, where Joann attended high school. In 1959, while still in high school, she met the love of her life, Ronald C. Froemming, at a local dance. They married on September 26, 1959, beginning nearly 66 years of devotion and friendship.
They welcomed their first child, Roni Jo, in Phoenix before moving to Glendale. Later, they moved to Tucson, where their son James "Jimmy" was born in 1962. That same year, the young family relocated to San Diego. In 1965, Ron's work took them to Bakersfield, then back to San Diego, where in 1968 their beloved Great Dane, Dutch, joined the family. In 1973 they purchased a home in Pleasanton, raising their children there until 1983.
Joann poured her heart into her family. She was a Girl Scout badge leader, team mom and scorekeeper for Roni's softball and Jimmy's Little League, and a Den Mother for his Boy Scout troop. The Froemming home was lively, full of teenage stories that became family legends, retold at dinners and leaving the grandkids in stitches.
Ron and Joann loved sharing adventures: trips to Disneyland and Knott's Berry Farm, the Grand Canyon, the Redwoods, scenic drives on Highway 101, and weekends at Lake Tahoe. One especially bold trip took a carload of teens skiing in Tahoe. In 1982, before leaving California, Max, their beloved Lhasa Apso, joined the family.
In 1983, these Midwesterners at heart moved to Wisconsin to be near Ron's family, where they've lived for 42 years. They continued traveling, with their favorite trip to Germany where, in a rare moment, they even enjoyed a beer together-a memory they cherished.
Ron and Joann truly lived for each other-a love story that never dimmed. Holding hands, sneaking a pinch in the kitchen, and sweet kisses were part of daily life, a beautiful example for all who knew them.
Joann loved a good thriller and shared that love of reading with her daughter and granddaughter. She enjoyed tracing family history, piecing together stories from generations before. Watching birds from her window and keeping her feeders full-even through Wisconsin winters-brought her joy.
She adored her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, proudly sharing their photos and stories. Monthly lunches with close friends and Friday Night Fish Frys with Ron and family were favorite traditions. Time spent with her baby sister and best friend, Lana, and Lana's husband, Dan, brought her special joy, with many dinners, ice cream stops, and a treasured trip to Lake Geneva for their anniversaries.
Joann will be remembered as loving, kind, and the steady anchor of her family. Her beauty-soft skin like porcelain-was admired by her daughter and granddaughters, and she'd smile and say it was from "not smoking or drinking." She carried herself with quiet grace, a gentle humor, and a deep love that will be felt forever.
Joann is preceded in death by her son, Jimmy; her parents, Ira and Martha; her brothers Closin, Benny, Lee, Kenny, and Ronnie; and her sister Kay. She is survived by the love of her life, Ronald, of Watertown, Wisconsin; her daughter, Roni Jo (Kurt) Lester of Watertown; her daughter-in-law, Cherie Froemming of Medford, Oregon; her sisters, Irene Brady of Roswell, New Mexico, and Lana (Dan) Clark of Las Vegas, Nevada; her grandchildren, Sara (John) Montgomery of Weed, California, Patrick (Kendall) McCarthy of Mt. Shasta, California, Logan Lester of Denver, Colorado, James "Bubba" Froemming, Chad (Claudia) Froemming, Trisha Froemming, and Desta Froemming, all of Medford, Oregon; her great-grandchildren, Elias, Maximus, Trinity, Serenity, Titus, Silas, Anabelle, Alijah, all of Medford, Oregon, and Annabelle, Liam, and Colin of Weed, California; as well as numerous brothers- and sisters-in-law, hundreds of nieces and nephews, and an extended family she loved deeply.
