Charles Glew Obituary

Charles E. Glew of Medfield, MA passed away on October 18, 2025. Charlie was born in Framingham, MA on July 20, 1942. He attended Framingham High School and UMass Amherst and was an accomplished hockey and lacrosse player. Charlie went on to earn his MBA at UMass and served in the Navy from 1966-69, achieving the rank of Lieutenant. His career as a consultant spanned four decades and included running his own company. While his record at UMass for goals scored in a single season (hockey, sophomore) still stands, his greatest record was going undefeated against cancer (7-0).
Charlie met his wife of 60 years, R. Sandra Kerr, while both were undergraduate students at UMass. After living in Virginia during the Navy years, New York during the early consulting years, and Colorado for a one-year transfer, they settled in Medfield where they raised three kids. Charlie enjoyed coaching Medfield youth hockey and baseball year-in and year-out, participating in the MOTH (Men Over The Hill) Ball league, and spending time in the yard or at the local fields supporting his kids' and grandkids' interests in athletics. There was no game too far to travel to or online detail that he couldn't unearth! He was an avid reader with a particular interest in history and current events. He and Sandy treasured many adventures with their travel buddies, Fran and Wanda Quinn, over the past twenty years. In his retirement days, Charlie appreciated the opportunity to contribute to the town in which he grew up, serving as an advisor to Hoops & Homework.
Charlie was not an over-sharer and his wish was that his obituary stick to "just the facts."
Fact is, we were fortunate to have him in our lives for 38 more years than cancer had originally planned, and the way he handled adversity taught us admirable life lessons. Among them: Obstacles are not to be feared, but faced. Complaining changes little, but research, knowledge, and determination are impactful. May we all overcome adversity with the same resolve and sense of humor (mixed with a healthy dose of stubbornness!) that Charlie did.
Charlie is survived by his wife, Sandy; son Chuck Glew and his wife Linda; daughter Deb Young and her husband Terry; son Jeff Glew; six grandchildren: Katie, Colin, Lindsey, Andrew, Brayden, and Avery; brothers Bob Glew and his wife Helene, Dick Glew and his wife Dotti, and Jeff Glew and his wife Janet; sisters Ellen Glew and Nancy Glew Beling; 12 nieces and nephews; and his next-door-neighbor cousins, the Ryders, and their families. Charlie was predeceased by his mother and father, Maddy and Bob Glew, and his nephews Jeffrey Glew and Sean Glew.
A public celebration of life will be held on November 3rd at The Center at Medfield, One Ice House Rd., Medfield, MA 02052. Open reception from 4:00 – 7:00 PM, with remembrances at 5:00 PM. A private family service will be held at the Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne, MA. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in Charlie's memory to Hoops & Homework in Framingham, MA or the American Cancer Society.
