Carol Schlieper Obituary

Carol Schlieper, age 77 of Pittsfield, IL passed away peacefully Tuesday, June 24, 2025, at her home surrounded by her family. She was born November 6, 1947, in Pittsfield, IL to Claire and Oneta Johnson McBride. Carol married Carroll 'Duke' Schlieper, Jr. November 17, 1966, at Rev. Maynard's home, and he survives. Carol was raised in Belleview, IL until moving in 1965 to Nebo with her family. Carol graduated with the Pittsfield High School Class of 1965 and then went on to Gem City College and received her secretarial degree. Over the years, she worked for Dick Niebur Insurance, Pike County Counseling Center, and Country Companies Insurance in both Pittsfield and Winchester retiring in 2012. Carol was an avid horsewoman, riding for the majority of her life. She was a member of the Pearl Saddle Club where she held the position of secretary; and was a member of Detroit Christian Church. Carol loved crafting, gardening and combing the antique shops for treasures; especially with special cousin, Cheryl Goltz. She always kept a tidy home, took great pride in her neat yard, and was a collector of geodes that she would find on the farm. She was well known for her cookie baking ability, especially her sugar, chocolate chip and oatmeal. Carol dearly loved her many pets over the years, was a dedicated wife, mother, grandmother, and treasured friend to many throughout her life. She was a quiet, loving, and giving woman who will be greatly missed by all who knew her. Carol is survived by her loving husband of 58 years, Duke Schlieper; sons, Brian (Deb) Schlieper of Lovettesville, VA and Jason (April) Schlieper of Pittsfield, IL; grandchildren, Matthew (Anna) Schlieper, Kendra Schlieper, Kayla Schlieper, Whitley (Javi) Garcia, Aurelia Lucio, Savannah (Mason Smith) Irving, Isabella Irving and Victoria Irving; sisters, Nancy (Larry) Kunzeman, Janet (Rodney) Woods and Ellen (Ronnie) Clendenny; in-laws, Ona Day Johnston, Judy Sokolis, Martha (Larry) Woodward, Gene (Nancy) Schlieper, Danny (Deana) Schlieper, and Debbie (Tom) Robinson; and several nieces and nephews also survive. She was preceded in death by her parents, Claire and Oneta McBride; nephew, Kyle Woods; and in-laws, Carroll and Verna Schlieper, Shirley Purney and Cindy Reveal. Funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM, Monday, June 30, 2025, at Detroit Christian Church in Detroit, IL with interment to follow the service at Pittsfield West Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 3:00 PM to 6:00 PM, Sunday, June 29, 2025, at Niebur Funeral Home in Pittsfield, IL. Memorials are suggested to be made to Detroit Christian Church.
