Cindy Sievers Obituary
Dateline: Meppen
Cindy Jo Sievers, 67, of Meppen, Illinois, went home to be with the Lord surrounded by family and friends on September 17, 2025. With remarkable strength, Cindy fought hard this last year after being diagnosed with leukemia and recovering from a bone marrow transplant. She is now reunited with her husband, Raymond, and her Lord and Savior, Jesus.
Cindy was born on February 3, 1958, to George and Jean (Dunn) Lorton of Hardin. She graduated from Calhoun High School in 1976. On August 27, 1977, she married her first and ONLY love, Raymond Sievers. Together they had five children and gained five more children by marriage: Shawn and Kristin Sievers, Rachel and Ryan Benz, Chelsie and Clint Pluester, Lindsey and Phil McLaughlin, and Hayden and Taylor Sievers. They were blessed beyond measure (and shared many bowls of ice cream) with their 21 grandchildren: Ella, Cade, Mary, Kiera, Walter, Rolen, Warner, Mya, Jessa, Henlee, Isabel, Henry, Raif, James, Ray, Winston, Rodney, Josie, Leo, Rhett, and Evelyn.
Cindy brought life to any party and love into every home. She was an artist that painted not only canvases and cards, but she brought color into every interaction–every smile, every hug, every prayer, every gift. Her lasagna recipe may have never been the same, but her hospitality was. She was known for her love of 80's and 90's country music (especially The Judd's), camping (at campgrounds with full hook-up and a swimming pool, of course), barbecuing, rearranging furniture, and loving her family through large portions of food. Not only did she bring spontaneity and life to her family, but she also brought joy to her Koinonia and Cursillo friends. We know she will be greatly missed.
We cannot share about Cindy without sharing about the profound love she shared with Raymond. Cindy was Raymond's caretaker for 47 years, but she was especially there for him as he battled with cancer during the last 8 years of his life. They were the embodiment of the marriage promises of "two becoming one" and caring for one another "in sickness and in health". Raymond passed away on July 27, 2024, and only 1 year and 52 days later, Cindy and Raymond were reunited again. The two were inseparable in life, and though we are saddened by our loss, we know she is at peace with Raymond and Jesus.
Cindy is survived by her 10 children, 21 grandchildren, her mother, Jean Lorton, and her siblings: Jeff (Sandy) Lorton, Debbie (Eric) Flock, Chris (Brenda) Lorton, Lisa Lorton Dolan, Roy (Helen) Sievers, Marlene (Fred) Eilerman, Pat (Jena) Sievers, Duane (Kate) Sievers, Mindy (Greg) Snider, and Missy (Tony) Rowling, and all of her many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Raymond, her father, George Lorton, her brother, Matt Lorton, and her in-laws, Eddy and Martha Sievers.
