Janice Robinson, 79, of Argyle, IA died Monday, July 28, 2025 at her daughter's home.
She was born on July 19, 1946 in Graham Hospital in Keokuk, IA. She was the daughter of Gilbert O. and Margaret Elizabeth Brookhart Newberry. After her parents divorced and her mother died, when she was seven years old, she was adopted by Rolland Dean and Goldie Mae McMillin Marvin of Sandusky.
Janice grew up going to a one room schoolhouse until the country schools consolidated and she went to Keokuk Junior and Senior High. She graduated at seventeen years old.
On July 13, 1963, Janice married James Jerl Steffen and they had two children. James Dean Steffen in December 1964 and Tracy Michelle Steffen in November 1967. They later divorced.
Growing up, Janice worked for her father, Rolland "Shorty" in his grocery store, Marvin's Grocery at 1803 South 7th Street in Keokuk. She also worked at Bob's Food Center in Donnellson, IA for nine years and later worked for two short periods at Sheller Globe. In August of 1980, Janice started working at Keokuk Area Hospital and worked there until her retirement in 2011.
On September 7, 1991 Janice married Dennis Ward Robinson at First Christian Church in Keokuk.
Janice is survived by her children, James (Diana) Steffen of Argyle, IA and Tracy (Duane) Case of Argyle, IA, her grandchildren, Tamsen (Nathan Hodson) of Ft. Madison, IA, Erin Steffen of Marion, IA, Toni (Andrew) Hunold of Argyle, IA, Darian (Jeffrey) Donaldson of Warsaw, IL, Jared Steffen of Argyle, IA, Zachary (Samantha) Case of Carthage, IL and Taylor Case of Burlington, IA, and her great-grandchildren, Trinity Hodson, Wyatt Hodson, Hunter Hodson and Emmett Hodson all of Ft. Madison, IA, Casey and Levi Steffen of Marion , IA and Hayden Huston and siblings, Ryleigh, Tamya, Lewis and Nathan Donaldson all of Warsaw, IL, Connor, Braiden, and Andria Hunold, of Argyle, IA, Asher Case and Dylan Case both of Carthage, IL and Colson Phillips of Burlington, IA and her first great great grandchild, Rico Eid of Ft. Madison, IA. She is also survived by her sister, Helen (Billy) Jackson of Alford, FL and many nieces and nephews.
Janice was preceded in death by her husband, Dennis, the love of her life, on Thanksgiving Day, November 27, 2008, her oldest grandson, James Michael Lee Steffen, her parents and adopted parents, her father and mother in-law, Ward and Edna Robinson, one sister, Joann Fye and five brothers, Donald Wayne Parks, Jim Newberry, Jack Newberry, Bill Newberry and Charles Newberry and two Parks sisters in infancy and one sister in-law, Sharon Baker.
A funeral service was held at 10 a.m., Saturday, at the Vigen Memorial Home in Keokuk with Pastor Barb Hagerla officiating. Burial will be in the Wyaconda Cemetery in Wyaconda, MO.
Visitation was held from 5-7 p.m., Friday at the funeral home with family meeting with friends at that time.
