John Henderson Obituary

John William Henderson, age 86, of rural Ewing, MO, passed away peacefully Tuesday night, September 16, 2025, at his home with Shirley by his side. He was born January 12, 1939, the son of William Hooper and Gayle Elizabeth (Northcraft) Henderson. On March 30, 1958, in Steffenville, MO, he was united in marriage to Shirley Bernice Gottreu, who survives. Also surviving are three children¸ Gaylene Ann Hammer (Brad) of Des Moines, IA, John William Henderson Jr. (Julie) of Kirksville, MO and Larry Dean Henderson (Lisa) of Steffenville, MO; one sister, Joyce Bilderback (Roger) of Ballwin, MO; one brother, Gary Henderson (Polly) Decatur, AR; one brother-in-law, Robert Gottreu (Jackie) of Hannibal, MO; seven grandchildren, Bryan Viles (Jaunine), Adam Viles (Amber), Tori Munyon (Brandon), Abby Richards (David), Andrew Mikolajczak (Lorrin), Landon Henderson (Maeghan), Linsay Gashwiler (Trey); Michelle Swanson (Jesse); Bryson Hammer (Molly); 16 great grandchildren: Halle, Lexi, Mya, Marleigh, M.J., Braylon, Nolan, Kimberlynn, Caydence, Aria, Ezra, Hudson, Jackson, Callahan, Ryson, Emmett, Griffin, Charlie and Brooks and one great, great grandchild: Magnolia. John attended Sweet Oak school and was a graduate of the LaBelle High School Class of 1956. He was engaged in farming, retiring in 1997; he continued to farm with his son, Larry, until 2022. John was a member of the Queen of Peace Catholic Church Ewing, Northriver Old Iron Club, Northeast Old Thrashers and the LaBelle Lodge A.F. and A.M. #222. He served on the Lewis County Soil Conservation Board from 1971-2003 and the Lewis County Ambulance Board. His hobbies included golf, shuffleboard, tractor pulling, fishing, pitch and sitting on the porch with his dog, Annie. He also enjoyed his family and friends greatly. A memorial service will be held Saturday, September 20, 2025, at 2:00 P.M. at the Coder Funeral Chapel in LaBelle, MO. Visitation will be prior to the service from Noon until 2:00 P.M. Honorary Pallbearers are Bryan Viles, Adam Viles, Tori Munyon, Abby Richards, Landon Henderson and Linsay Gashwiler. Burial will be at a later date at the LaBelle Cemetery, LaBelle, MO It is the request of the Henderson Family that no flowers be sent. Instead, memorials may be made to the Central Missouri Old Tractors Association or Heartland Resources.
