John Hines Obituary
John P. Hines, age 92, of Quincy, died on Thursday, October 16, 2025 at 10:54 p.m. in Blessing Hospital.
John was born on August 1, 1933 in Chicago, IL, the son of John E. and Lillian Skowzgird Hines. On June 10, 1973 he married Linda L. Berry, of Quincy, in Las Vegas, NV. She preceded him in death on January 10, 2021.
John was a graduate of Lane Technical High School, the University of Illinois at Navy Pier, and the University of Chicago, where he earned a Master of Business Administration degree. He honorably served in the United States Army during the Korean War.
John enjoyed a long and varied career, including several years working for Quincy Compressor before becoming a successful business owner. John owned and operated E.R. Moore Cap and Gown in Chicago, Illinois, as well as Caribe Cap and Gown in Puerto Rico.
Outside of work, John had a passion for gambling and enjoyed spending time in casinos, especially in Las Vegas. He was also an avid trader with a particular interest in options trading.
Above all, John cherished the time he spent with his family, especially with his wife, Linda.
Survivors include six children: Steven John (Patti "P.J.") Hines of Phoenix, AZ; Kathleen M. (John "Giovanni") Janninck of Quincy; Karen Ann (Robert "Bob") Larson of Quincy; Kenneth John Hines of Elmwood Park, IL; Timothy Lee (Sarah) Hermeling of Sandy Springs, GA; and Daniel John (Becky) Hines of Lake Barrington, IL; nine grandchildren: Samuel (Kaitlyn) Hines, Joseph Hines, Valerie Larson, Kristen (Michael) Jopes, Alexander Hermeling, Lauren (Corey) Luksch, Meredith (Kyle) Eggett, Katherine "Katie" Hines, and Paige Hines; and four great grandchildren: Leighton and Callum Hines and Michael and Oliver Pusavc.
In addition to his wife, John was preceded in death by his parents.
Visitation: 1:30 to 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, October 26, 2025 at Hansen-Spear Funeral Home.
