Norbert Kortes Obituary

Norbert C. Kortes "Bert" age 95 of Harrison passed away peacefully on Friday, June 27,2025 at Woodland Hospice House of Mt. Pleasant.

Norbert was born March 10, 1930 in Detroit,Michigan the son of Helen Marie (Ray) Kortes and Norbert A. Kortes. Upon graduating high school, Bert continued his education and graduated from Wayne State University, Detroit, earning his Master's Degree. Mr. Kortes was united in marriage to Ms. Joan Velora Corwin on August 18, 1950 in Detroit. Mrs. Kortes preceded Bert in death on October 11, 2014. Bert wase mployed with Michigan Con Gas Company as an Executive in Quality Assurance and Policy andProcedure, a position he held until his retirement. Mr. Kortes had resided in Harrison since 1985, moving from Brighton, Michigan. Bert served the residents of Clare County for over twelve years as a Clare County Commissioner and Chairman of the Board of Commissioners. Bert enjoyed serving Clare County and was always passionate about representing his residents. Bert enjoyed reading the newspaper daily, as well as the funnies section of the paper. He also enjoyed traveling, caring for and grooming his yard, a tremendous fascination for the universe and astronomy. Bert enjoyed delivering meals for seniors, a daily task he performed for many years.

Surviving Mr. Kortes is his fiancé, Sarah Pease of Harrison, four grandchildren; Theresa, Ashley, Amber and Andy, seven great-grandchildren, one son-in-law, Gary Killion of South Lyon, Michigan, one brother, David Kortes and wife Pat of Alger, Michigan, plus several nieces and nephews. Mr. Kortes also was preceded in death by his parents, two daughters; Sherry Potter and Pamela Killion, two grandsons; Doug Killion and Caleb Potter, one sister, Delores Cebula and one son-in-law, Lonnie Potter.

Celebration of Life services honoring Mr. Kortes will be held Saturday, July 19, 2025 at 12:00 p.m. from Clark-Stocking Funeral Chapel and Cremation Service, 165 West Oak St., Harrison, with Rev. Norman Beckwith officiating. A time of gathering and sharing will be held Saturday, July 19, 2025 from 10:00 a.m. until time of service. Inurnment will be in St. Athanasius Catholic Cemetery, Harrison. A luncheon will take place at Clark-Stocking Reflections Reception Center immediately following inurnment. Memorial gifts in memory of Bert may be considered to: Kortes family to assist in the purchase of a cemetery monument or to Clare County Animal Shelter.
