David Minshew Obituary
WILLIAMSTON - David Eric "Rick" Minshew, 76, of Williamston, NC, passed away on Sunday, June 22nd, surrounded by his family, after a courageous year-long battle with cancer.
A proud graduate of Williamston High School, he went on to earn his bachelor's degree from Campbell University. He then served three years in the U.S. Army before continuing his education at East Carolina University, where he obtained a master's degree in education.
Rick dedicated his professional life to shaping young minds as a teacher, football coach, and assistant principal at Williamston Middle School. In the final years of his educational journey, he led several elementary schools in Martin County as principal. His influence extended far beyond the classroom and playing field, leaving a lasting impact on generations of students.
Rick was preceded in death by his parents, Jackie Peterson Minshew and David Elmer Minshew.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Sherry; daughter, Dana Minshew Whitley and her husband David of Charlotte; sons, Mark Minshew and his wife Kristen of Raleigh, and Cole Minshew and his wife Breanna of Washington. Rick was a proud grandfather to Trey, Landon, and Caden Whitley; Worth and Noah Minshew; granddaughter Avery Minshew; and eagerly anticipated the arrival of his sixth grandson, Hudson Minshew. He is also survived by his sister, Bunny Miles, and brother, Barry Minshew, both of Florence, SC.
In keeping with his humble spirit, Rick chose not to have a formal service. Instead, he wished for his memory to live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him. Friends and family are invited to honor his legacy in their own way-perhaps by taking a relaxing drive to an antique shop, enjoying nature's beauty, chatting about the weather or gas prices, enjoying a cold beer, or simply enjoying life's quiet, joyful moments, just as Rick would have wanted.
