Dolores Felsheim Obituary

Dolores Maus Felsheim

October 28, 1931 - June 19, 2025

Age 93 of South St. Paul

Passed away surrounded by family on June 19, 2025. Born in Rollingstone, Minn., on October 28, 1931. She was raised with her brother Edwin on their beautiful family farm on top of Oak Ridge. She grew up in a close-knit, loving family filled with faith, hard work, ambition and service to others. Her loving parents, Lester and Cecilia also taught her to have a little fun when all the work was completed. Her grandmother introduced her to music and the piano at age five. By her 10th birthday, Dolores knew her life's work would be dedicated to music. She graduated from Cathedral high school in 1949. Ahead of her time, she financed her colligate education in music at the College of St. Teresa's in Winona by giving private piano lessons. She continued her studies at The MacPhail College of Music where she earned three degrees in music education, piano and piano pedagogy as well as completing course work for her master's degree.

On a fateful evening in 1951, Dolores accompanied her parents to a dance hall in Centerville, Wisconsin. There a dashing WWII Merchant Marine veteran named Paul Felsheim asked her to dance. It was love at first sight. Paul made a follow-up dinner date and 6 months later they became engaged. Paul and Dolores were married in 1955 and enjoyed a loving true partnership for the next 45 years. They were blessed with 2 daughters, which, with their catholic faith became the center of their lives. Their family has grown to bring 9 grandchildren and now 6 great grandchildren and counting.

Dolores and Paul moved to South St. Paul to start their family and careers. While Paul worked long hours, often away from home characterizing water resources for the US Geologic Survey, Dolores developed a career serving students in Music education. She had provided piano lessons and choir direction before marriage in Rollingstone and now began piano instruction for students at St. Augustine's in South St. Paul. Later Dolores was the Choir Director and a Music Teacher at Woodbury Elementary for seven years. In 1975 Dolores set out to concentrate full time at providing piano instruction for local students in her home studio. During the next 43 years Dolores gave the gift of music to hundreds of students through 3 generations. In addition to music instruction, Dolores truly wanted to also help her students with their lives and overall development. She deeply cared for each and every one. Beyond her career, Dolores also served for over 25 years in the Holy Trinity catholic church Liturgical Committee, Choir and Woman's Guild. She continued to give the gift of Music until the age of 89 when her health could no longer enable it.

Dolores was very loved at every phase and location of her 93 years of life. She was known for her devout faith, fierce friendships, love of music and love of family. In addition to music, Dolores loved meeting people, developing relationships and conversing in long talks. She is survived by her brother, Edwin Maus; her daughter, Lisa (Roy) Martin, and their children; Chris (Tiffany) Martin, and their children Maxwell and Montgomery; Margaret (John) Jensen, and their children Harrison and Maren; daughter, Paula (Rich) Breimhurst, and their children Maria (Aaron) Padgett, and soon to be child, Megan (Josh) Blomberg; Peter (Nikki) Breimhurst, and their son Paul; Anne Breimhurst, John Breimhurst, Alex Breimhurst and Grant Breimhurst. I was in the first group of piano students that Dolores Felsheim taught from St. Augustine's Grade School in So. St. Paul. I was in fourth grade at the time in fall of 1955. I remember very well that our teacher introduced Mrs. Felsheim to the class, and told us that Mrs. Felsheim was offering to teach piano to anyone who was interested in learning to play.
I took lessons for about four years, and although I was certainly not one of her better students, I love the expressiveness of music, and I used what I learned for singing in choirs for most of my life.
And I kept in touch with Mrs. Felsheim really all through my life.
After I retired from teaching, I visited with her several times a year at her home in So. St. Paul, and was very blessed to visit with her also when she moved to St. Therese Home with her daughter, Paula Breimhurst.
I was very sad to hear of her passing. But Mrs. Felsheim was a person of strong character, deep faith, devotion to music education, and genuine concern about everyone she taught, worked with, or simply knew.
How proud her family must be of her memory and legacy. I am blessed and honored to have known her.
