MADISON – Jay Lester Bullins, 82, passed away peacefully at home on Thursday, July 10, 2025, surrounded by his loving family.

A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m., on Sunday, July 13, 2025, at Colonial Funeral Home in Madison, N.C., with burial to follow at Wilson Primative Baptst Church cemetery. The family will receive friends Saturday, July 12, 2025, beginning at 6 until 8 p.m., at Colonial Funeral Home in Madison and all other times at the home.

Jay was born on May 26, 1943 to the late Howard and Lemma Martin Bullins. First and foremost, Jay loved his God! He loved his darling Mary, as she did him for 25 years.

Jay was a faithful member at Grace Baptist Church in Madison. He loved his family and his extended family. He loved farming raising tobacco and gardening, He was also a bee keeper. Jay loved traveling, dancing, music, going out to eat, loved walking especially in the woods where there were lots of trees. He enjoyed all of God's creation, and left honored to be one of God's stewards of the land. Jay was very special and unique person. Jay loved to work and share his knowledge of the land, trees and history with others. As a young person growing up loved to go gigging and search for ginseng with his dad, family and friends. Jay helped a lot of people in the community with housing and other needs. Jay was a man of means but lived a humble life. Many times people would come to him for help, he was always there to help anyone in need. Jay loved RJ Reynolds and the friends he had there. Often after he retired he would visit them. Jay will surely be missed by every life he touched.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Joel Dean Bullins; brother, Danny Lee Bullins; sister, Mary Kay Bullins.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Easter; daughters, Joan Roberts (Mark) and Joyce Evans (Kevin); grandchildren, Jesse Bullins (Lisa), Jamie Bullins (Kathy), Chace Bullins (Misty), Corey Roberts (Whitney), Jasmine Evans (Austin); great-grandchildren, Josiah, Jonathan, Jeremiah, Gabriel, Aubrey, Landon, Scarlett; extended family, David Easter (Michelle), Wendy Denny (Steve) and Roxy Winslow (Ronnie).

The family asks that you plant a tree in memory of Jay's love for trees and nature.
