Douglas Resner Obituary

Douglas S. (Doug) Resner

October 18, 1955 - October 24, 2024

Douglas S. (Doug) Resner passed away peacefully at the Columbia Health Care Center in Wyocena, Wis., at the age of 69 years and 6 days, with Delta by side. Born to Norm S. and Imelda (nee Witt) Resner, on Oct. 18, 1955, in Chicago.

He belonged to St. Benedict Parish. Doug served a tour in the Army, stationed in Frankfurt, Germany as a surveyor. Upon his return home he worked in several warehouse settings. He married his wife Delores (Flores) Sept. 20, 1990, in Las Vegas. They lived in Chicago's Northside, Utah, Colorado, and Wisconsin. In Sept. 2012, Doug received a double-lung transplant. He never would have gotten through his recovery without his sister-in-law Lupe. Doug enjoyed sports of all kinds, especially the Bears, the Blackhawks and the Cubs. He made his home in Pardeeville with partner and caretaker Delta. Prior to COVID and Doug's health failing they enjoyed going to concerts in Madison, Milwaukee, Minnesota, Michigan and Chicago. Doug's greatest passion was going out to eat. Once Portillo's opened on Madison's east side, trips home from the VA included a Chicago Dog and Italian Beef.

Doug is survived by his brother, Norm J. (Sandy) Resner; he was uncle to Renee, "Little One," (Jason) Schaal, Gary (Meghan) Resner, Henry "Frank" (Tiffany) Ulrich, Valerie (Harry) Maltby. He is also survived by his partner Delta (Cross) Smith; great uncle to Courtney and Jason Schaal Jr., Julliana, Isayiah, Devin, Jayden, Adrien; brother-in-law to Guadalupe Paus; stepfather to Mario (Yolanda), Anthony (Wendy Eisenbise Covelli) Arteaga, Trish (Tony Scammel) Mendez; grandfather to Erica (Jim) Bielak, Monica (Tom) Halpin, Michelle (Chris) Jilg. Doug leaves behind extended family and friends and his dogs Stormy and Shilo. He is preceded in death by his parents; brother, Gerald F. Resner, wife Delores and her eight sisters; and three brothers; and stepsons Eddie and Louis Artega Jr.; brother-in-law Ronald Paus.

A special thanks to the people in his life who took care of Doug, including the wonderful doctors and nurses at the VA, the transplant team, and the fourth-floor staff where he made a lot of friends that cheered him on with each hospital stay, for the past two years this was his home away from home, the home health staff at Village CareGiving and the SSM home health nurses and team. Thanks go out to the staff at the Columbia Health Care Center and Bristol Hospice for their compassion and care of Doug during his stay. Thank you, Vicki, and Eric Radloff, for always staying in touch with us and checking on Doug. Eric, his Chicago wit will always be with you.
