George Francis Held was born on January 23, 1932 to George and Mary (Kruse) Held in Hartford. After graduating from Hustisford High School, he served in the United States Air Force during the Korean War. On April 30, 1955 he married Corinne Zastrow and were blessed with 49 years of marriage. He worked at John Deere Horicon Works and retired after 28 years. George married the former Norma Teuteberg on October 19, 2008 and enjoyed spending many winters together in Arizona.

George was a man of deep faith. He was on the church council and was an elder at Bethany Lutheran Church for many years. George was also very passionate about baseball. George was also involved in his community serving as treasurer for the Town of Hustisford and helped to found the Sinissippi Trail Hawks Snowmobile Club. George loved to spend time with his family and friends at his property on Lake Sharon. He also enjoyed deer hunting with his three sons, watching his grandchildren play sports and cherished the time he spent with his great-grandchildren. He was quick to share a joke and will be remembered for his witty sense of humor.
