Ronald Atwell Obituary

Ronald Gentry Atwell, 86, of Indianapolis, passed away peacefully on July 5, 2025. He was born August 11, 1938, to Wilbur and Arebelle Atwell. Ron was one of nine siblings. A 1957 graduate of Ben Davis High School, Ron proudly served in the U.S. Army and later as a Marion County Sheriff. He was deeply rooted in Indiana's golfing community, where he was well known for both his talent and leadership. Ron was also a devoted Purdue fan and spent his later years at Cumberland Pointe in West Lafayette, where he was beloved for his wit and competitive spirit at bingo. One of his greatest joys was taking part in the Honor Flight to Washington, D.C., with his brother Larry. He was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, Arthur "Sonny" Atwell, Robert "Bob" Atwell, Monnie G. Atwell, and Charles "Kenny" Atwell; and his sisters, Lois Atwell Bruce and Ina Kay Atwell Thomas. Surviving are his brothers, Wilbur "Billy" and Larry Atwell; his daughters, Debbie Schneider (Mike), Melinda Pletcher (Steve), and Diane Atwell Boener (Rich); his grandchildren, Lauren Blum (Brandon), Shelby Billington (Evan), Stephanie Pletcher, Rachael Kappernman (Brandon), Carly Schneider, Karas Boener, and Kassidy Boener; and his 3 great grandchildren.
