Joyce Fontaine Obituary

Loretta 'Joyce'

Fontaine

WOONSOCKET - Loretta 'Joyce' Fontaine 84, passed away on July 24, 2025, at home surrounded by her husband and daughters after a long illness. Born in Woonsocket, she was a daughter of the late Edward and Doris (Sylvestre) Curtis. Joyce lived a very full life, married for sixty-seven years to the love of her life George (Tex) Fontaine, whom she met in 1958 at the former Joyland Skating Center. George was a skate guard who wanted to date her and would throw her off the floor until she agreed to go on a date with him. She worked at Miller Electric for many years, then in various jewelry shops during the winters, so she could spend her summers vacationing at Cape Cod with her family. The best years of her life were spent at Race Point Beach, fishing, beach combing, whale and seal watching. Once the children were grown, she took classes to become a CNA and worked for the Visiting Nurses of RI caring for people. Most recently she worked for Sodexo Food Service as a lunch lady in the Woonsocket School System and loved interacting with the children. She enjoyed sewing, concerts, vacationing, and watching the snow fall. She also helped a RI Charity Break a Guinness World Record; Athena's Cup put together the longest bra-chain to bring awareness to breast cancer month.

Besides her loving husband she leaves her daughters, Debra Bandieri of New Hampshire, Dawn Fontaine of Woonsocket, and Stacey Martin of Cumberland, a brother Richard Curtis of Woonsocket, six grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by a grandson Gerald Bandieri, and a brother Edward Curtis II.

Her funeral will be held Thursday, July 31, 2025, at 10:00 AM from the Fournier & Fournier Funeral Home, 99 Cumberland St., Woonsocket, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 AM at St. Joseph's Church, Mendon Rd., Woonsocket. Burial will be private. Visiting hours are Wednesday, July 30, 2025, from 4-7 PM. In lieu of flowers donations to Gloria Gemma Foundation in her memory would be appreciated.
