David Neiber Obituary

David J. Neiber of Roscoe, IL, born September 6, 1943, in Rockford, IL, went to be with the Lord on July 7, 2025, peacefully at home after a long battle with Alzheimer's. He will be greatly missed by his family. David married Donna Zellgert on October 5, 1968, in Oakland, CA. They resided in California until 1986 with their two children. David graduated from West High School, Rockford, IL, class of 1961 and attended UW Platteville. David also obtained many certifications. David retired in 2002 after many years of owning and operating dry cleaners and laundromats in California and Roscoe, IL. David had many hobbies and interests, but mostly he really loved cars. He had a knack for rebuilding and restoring cars, especially Studebakers. He enjoyed attending car shows and won plaques and trophies for his cars. While living in California, he built racecars and family and friends would spend many Saturdays at the track enjoying time together. He served as President of the Studebaker Driver's Club where he and his wife Donna met many good friends and enjoyed many club events. He could always be found tinkering with one of his kids' cars making sure they were running as they should be and always reminding them to check their oil when they were younger. He was a social man and loved to talk with others, especially if it was about cars. He was a giving man always willing to help those in need and less fortunate. He was very handy and could fix anything that was broken, build additions onto houses and be there in a moment if you needed him. He also dedicated his time as a Webelos leader. David is survived by his wife, Donna, Roscoe, IL; daughter, Christina Neiber, South Beloit, IL; son, Michael (Jennifer) Neiber, Rockton, IL; grandson, Nicholas Neiber, South Beloit, IL; grandson, Cody Neiber and granddaughter, Savanna Neiber, both of Rockton, IL; sister, Carole (Howard) Kohn, Las Vegas, NV; nephew, Eric (Kileen) Kohn, Las Vegas, NV; and his dog, Katie. David was predeceased by his parents, Servanus and Katherine Neiber. The family would like to thank the nurses and staff at Mercy Hospice for the wonderful care they provided David and their support to the family during the last few weeks of his disease, and thanks to the staff at Home Instead for their care. Memorial visitation will be on Thursday, July 24, 2025, in Roscoe United Methodist Church, 10816 Main Street, Roscoe, IL, 61073, from 3:00pm until 4:00pm, with memorial service to follow. A Celebration of Life dinner will be held at Historic Auto Attractions, 13825 Metric Road, Roscoe, IL, 61073, following the service. In honor of Dave, if you have a classic car, sporty car, or old car, please drive it. He would love it! To send flowers to the family or plant a tree in memory of David J.
