James Johnson Obituary
With a twinkle in his eye and a song in his heart, the adventurous and ambitious spirit of James Edward Johnson, known as sweet, innocent, shy and naive, took his final bow on July 3, 2025. Born on February 22, 1947, in Beloit, WI, James was a lifelong resident of the South Beloit - Rockton area. An enthusiastic school bus driver in his professional life, he harbored an unwavering dedication towards his work and the students he transported. Retirement never slowed him down; instead, he filled his days with the strum of his upright bass, the satisfying thwack of a well-played golf stroke, and the warm embrace of his beloved family and church community.
The word "loyal" was practically James' middle name. His commitment to the Rockton United Methodist Church was steadfast and unyielding. He served as a trustee, volunteered his time to prepare the Church for Sunday Service, and assisted with general maintenance. His upright bass was a constant companion, providing the soundtrack to many a Sunday service. Yet, what mattered most to James, more than the sweet melodies he played, the swish of a golf club, or the rattle of the school bus, was his family. A dedicated father, grandfather, and brother, James' love for his family was as dependable as the sunrise.
James is survived by his daughters, Jenica Ziese, Dawn Chrapkowski, and Heather Williams, and their partners Brent Ziese, Shannon Chrapkowski, and Jason Williams respectively. His legacy also endures through his grandchildren, Ashley Morris, Corey Gunder, Memphis Moore, Jay Ziese, Hunter Ziese, Derek Polzin, and LauraMarie Polzin, along with their partners Jake Morris and Sabrina Gunder. He is also survived by his sister, Judy Evans. James was preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Delores Johnson, and his loving wife, Gail Johnson.
