Janice Cich Obituary
Janice Marie Cich, 81, passed away Tuesday, July 1, 2025 at Manor Court in Rochelle, Illinois. Jan was born on December 22, 1943, the daughter of John and Harriett (Slezarczyk) Ziemba in Chicago, IL. On April 8, 1967, she married Lawrence J. Cich in Harwood Heights, IL. While attending Maine West High School, Jan participated in the concert band and bowling club. Her interest in bowling continued on for many years in league play. But that was not the only round ball interest. Her love for baseball started early in childhood and it was a natural that Jan became an avid Cubs fan. Many days at Wrigley and Cubs conventions were spent with her cubby buddie, Gail. Many years (47 to be exact) of RV'ing was another enjoyment Jan had, especially when they started to spend winter time in Texas. She also enjoyed cooking and playing cards with her friends. Jan's cooking skills led to hosting many family dinners throughout the year. Starting in 1976, Jan and Larry looked forward to putting on the annual 4th of July friends backyard picnic. Jan was employed as a secretary for many years. It was said that she was so fast on the keyboard that in giving dictation to her, you had to speak fast to keep up with her. She also used her skills when Jan and Larry had their business. She was the secretary, accountant, editor of their newsletter, and sales representative at shows throughout the United States. After moving to Creston in 1997, Jan became involved with the Creston Booster Club and became their treasurer. She also was elected to the Dement Township Board as a trustee. Jan belonged to the American Legion Auxiliary, Billy Caldwell Post 806, 100 Women Who Care of Ogle County and the Cute Young Railroad Chicks Breakfast Club. Jan is survived by her husband of 58 years, Larry; two sons: Andrew Cich and Edward Cich; and three brothers: Ron (Judy) Ziemba, Alan (Vickie) Ziemba and Don (Marie) Ziemba; brother-in-law, Joe (Cindy) Cich.
