Stephens Batchelder Obituary

On Saturday April 5, 2025 Stephens Holmes Batchelder, Jr passed peacefully at his residence surrounded by his wife and daughters. Steve was born in Kingsport, TN September 21, 1950. He was always larger than life, big smile and bigger laugh. He never met a dog he didn't like. Steve retired from the Army in 2010 where he had served 24 years. He also retired from Alabama DOC as a corrections officer for 25 years. Steve had many hobbies throughout his life but his best was telling stories or one liners. In retirement he enjoyed time with friends, family, or driving around one or 6 of the dogs. He was a locksmith and rekeyed or made keys for a great many through the years. His illness came on quickly but like Steve handled anything he gave it his all. He leaves to remember and retell his stories his wife Amelia Mills Batchelder, daughters Tara Cantrell, Britney (Benjamin) Sullins, grandsons Cameron Cantrell and Odin Sullins, sister Betsy Batchelder, and brother Bob (Leah) Batchelder. He was preceded in death by his parents Stephens Holmes Batchelder, Sr and Dorothy Tappen Batchelder. The family will receive visitors from 12-2p.m. on Wednesday, April 09, 2025 with service to begin at 2, all at Hamilton Free Will Baptist Church, with Bro. Tommy Franks and Adrian Nottonson officiating. Interment will be at Hamilton Memory Gardens. Marion County Funeral Home directing.
