Barbara Riley Obituary

87, of St. Albans, passed away Monday, July 7, 2025 at Hubbard Hospice House South, Charleston.

She was born in Charleston to the late Arlie and Opal Francisco. She was also preceded in death by her husband David Riley.

Barbara was a loving, kind, very helping, person who made huge impacts on children everywhere she went. She was a 1954 graduate of Dunbar High School. She was instrumental in setting up the library with the Dewey Decimal System at Alban Elementary School. She was also a member of the Winfield Church of the Nazarene.

Surviving are her children, Debbie Whittington (Ernie) of St. Albans and John Riley (Sreda) of Mechanicsville, VA; sister, Jeanne Claytor (Bill) of Valrico, FL; brother, Denver Smith (Brenda) of Nitro; grandchildren, Shanna Whittington, Nikole Whittington, Shane Riley, Austin Riley and Taylor Bryan (John); great grandchildren, Braxton Halstead, Alexa Tyson (Ethan), Brayden Phillips; great great grandchildren, Kaz and Dutton; and many other extended family and friends.

Funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Thursday, July 10, 2025 at Bartlett-Nichols Funeral Home, St. Albans, with Pastor Earl Pennington officiating. Burial will follow the service in Tyler Mountain Memory Gardens, Cross Lanes.

Friends may visit with the family one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
