Iris Pugh Obituary
Iris Nadine Pugh
August 1, 1922 - April 5, 2025
Longtime Bradshaw resident, Iris Nadine Chrisman Pugh, 102 years, 8 months, 4 days old, passed away peacefully on April 5, 2025, at the home of her son in Trophy Club, TX.
Iris was born in Burlington, KS to Floyd E and Gertrue E. (Anderson) Chrisman on August 1, 1922. At a young age, her parents and older brother Arnold moved to York County and settled in the Blue Vale area. Since her father maintained the county roads with a horse drawn maintainer, they moved around southern York County. She attended and graduated from a rural school southwest of York and would ride a horse to school every day. She went on to graduate from York High school in 1939. Upon graduation, she worked at a local grocery store on the south side of the square in York. Later, she was employed at the then ASCS office as Secretary-Treasurer.
In 1944 she married Jack Pugh and started working at the Fairmont Air Base, holding the position as Assistant Civilian Personnel Statistician until the base's closure. The two then moved to Spokane, WA where she worked in medical pharmacy until Jack was discharged from serving his country.
Shortly after the birth of their daughter, Patsy in 1947, they moved to McCool Junction, NE. In 1951 they moved to Bradshaw where she was a stay at home mom until her employment as a Postal Clerk with the United States Postal Service, a position she held for many years, serving the Bradshaw, Hampton, McCool and York post offices. In May 1983 she retired, a day after Jack.
Outside of work, Iris was dedicated to their family and friends. Jack and she loved socializing with friends and neighbors, sometimes in the basement of Herb Rasmussen's basement. And other times at the York Legion Club. They continued this later, gathering with friends for burger night at the local Elks. Later on, Iris was a regular at the "Cup of Joe" group meeting at the Bradshaw church every Tuesday and Thursday mornings. On Fridays, it was coffee and cookies at the bank in Bradshaw. She could often be seen in the mornings walking around Bradshaw and even into the country with friends, Arlene Eklund, Luella Petty and Joanne Foster. When it came time to mowing the yard, Iris was on her mower well into her 90s, catching the grass clippings and dumping them into her pickup, then unloading by herself.
Jack and Iris were parade marshals for the Bradshaw Bicentennial celebrations and in 2021 she was honored by the town and named VIP of the year.
Iris loved to travel. Her son would often call and ask if she wanted to go... and the next thing you heard on the phone was her suitcase zipping shut, front door slamming and her car starting to head to the airport. She didn't know or care where she was going, she just was happy to go. She enjoyed the many trips she took to Hawaii, the Virgin Islands, a cruise in the Caribbean, Lake Tahoe, Reno NV to see Anne Murray and trips to Seattle and Phoenix to see her sisters-in-laws. She even saw Paris!!!! Texas that is. She had fun telling coffee mates that one.
Family time was very important to both Iris and Jack, as they enjoyed taking Patsy and Jack Jr. with them wherever they went. This continued with their grandchildren and later with her great grandsons whom she spent a lot of time watching as they grew. She loved her family and made sure they took priority in her life.
Iris is survived by her son, Jack Jr., son in law George Corner of Lincoln. In addition, her granddaughter Jennifer (Jason) Lohr of Tulsa, OK and her grandson Michael J.
